I caught a Front 242 gig recently

I went to see Front 242, one of my all-time favorite bands, and it was a dream come true to finally be there. That night at the Avalon Hollywood became an unforgettable experience for me.

Wow, that was an amazing presentation! It was my first time seeing them, and I couldn’t wait to experience their performance. Have to admit, at first, I noticed a lot of freaky guys, but truth be told, most of the girls there looked fantastic. There’s a big difference between listening to Front 242 for 10 years and actually being there, just 16 feet away from them.

It’s been quite an experience; I ended up totally voiceless, and my neck still aches a bit. I was so excited to go; you could tell from the moment I bought the tickets online and in all the days leading up to it. I invited my brother-in-law Alex; he’s not big into electronic music, but hey, being European, he doesn’t mind it either.

I must mention I was standing next to Richard 23, one of the vocalists from Front 242, for a brief moment”

Right From The Start.

As we were approaching Avalon, you could feel the vibe of what was about to unfold; a lot of people were showing up. I must mention I was standing next to Richard 23, one of the vocalists from Front 242, for a brief moment. Unfortunately, everything happened so fast that there literally wasn’t time to snap a picture with him… well, next time.

We were all eagerly anticipating Front 242’s arrival at the venue, with a couple of DJs setting the mood for the night. They were spinning Industrial Electro, but what really caught my eye was that they were doing it wearing a pair of blue masks. Following them, there was another group, more into Industrial Rock than electronic or EBM. I liked it a bit less than the previous act.

It was pretty thrilling to be there, getting a nod from the lead singer of one of my all-time favorite bands.”

Memorable Night.

The second band wasn’t bad, but they didn’t really grab my attention. Maybe it’s because I was expecting more Hard Techno and got hit with Rock instead. So, Alex and I decided to step out to the alley for a smoke and grab some drinks. That’s when the members of the Belgian group showed up. We watched them come in through the same patio we were hanging out, and everyone was super friendly. Richard23 even returned my greeting.

It was pretty thrilling to be there, getting a nod from the lead singer of one of my all-time favorite bands. Before we knew it, the cheers were signaling that Front 242 was about to hit the stage, so we headed back into the venue. The crowd was pumped from the get-go, and they kicked things off with the classic “Happiness“, getting everyone hyped.

I can’t recall enjoying a live show as much as Front 242 at the Avalon; I hope there’s another chance.”

Main Course.

They delved into tracks like “Body To Body“, “Religion“, “Welcome To Paradise“, “Crapage“, “Moldavia“, igniting the crowd even more. Up to that point, it was shaping up to be a great concert, with the entire atmosphere pulsating to the beat of each song. Fun fact: the entire performance had excellent sound quality, not disappointing the hundreds in attendance.

They wrapped it up with another classic: “Headhunter“, then came back for a couple more tunes, concluding with “Punish Your Machine“. They didn’t get to play some tracks like “Masterhit“, but hey, they threw in “Funkhadafi” —10 points for hitting that track! By the end of the concert, I was already voiceless, completely drained but happy, and the hoarseness stuck around for a good 2 days.

I can’t recall enjoying a live show as much as Front 242 at the Avalon; I hope there’s another chance. Here are the visuals:
